The Architecture and Urbanism course invited Paula Teles to be on the 8th of May, at the Catholic University in Recife, Brazil, in the workshop entitled “Grammar for the design of cycling cities” where questions about urban mobility were discussed. The action was part of the Ateliê Projeto 9 discipline and, in addition to Paula Teles, was attended by representatives of Recife City Hall and specialists in the area.

During the event, male and female students presented the integrated urban plan for the neighborhood of São José, the location chosen for the practical application of the methodology developed in the discipline.

On the occasion, Portuguese researcher Paula Teles launched the book “A Cidade das Bicicletas”. The work presents cases of European cities that have transformed their mobility. More than a matter of gaining time on the journeys, the issue is directly linked to the fight against climate change.

“The planet is in an environmental collapse and there is an urgent need to change, cities that were previously designed for cars, now need to be suitable for pedestrians and bicycles. This has implications for the design of urban equipment and for political issues”, pointed out Paula Teles.
